Study Hall

E-mail Print PDF
Including study halls in high schools will make them a better place to learn, and surely would lead to huge progress in students test scores and homework. Having a period designated just for students to be in study hall will help them more on studying and getting homework done. Study hall will also be a nice and quiet place to take a nap, which many of our students need! This will be the time of day where students can get extra work done or take a rest and therefore improve grades.
A period for study hall will help students get their homework and studying done. Many students have trouble getting their homework and studying done at home, either because of distractions or other responsibilities. Some students have many household members in their home such as little children that can cause a lot of noise and distraction. There are many people out there who cannot get their work done with a lot of chaos going on. Some students have responsibilities such as after school jobs, which really don’t give much time for them to get their schoolwork done. Study hall would give students the time to actually get to their homework or study for a test without any distractions.  Most importantly students won’t have to worry about other responsibilities because it would be during school hours,
There are students who don’t get much sleep outside of school. They're either working long hours, spending all night on a paper or can’t get any sleep because of loud noise where they are living. Students work hard in their classes during the day and need a break. Study hall could be the time of day students can just rest. This will help students focus in class more instead of falling asleep.
Someone who disagrees with having a study hall in our school would say students have a lunch period where they can work on schoolwork. Well lunch is a period for eating and socializing. There’s a big difference between a lunch period and a period for study hall. Students can work on schoolwork during lunch, but what about all the noise in the cafeteria? These are the same problems students were trying to avoid at home. Students won’t be able to focus or rest in the cafeteria.
A period for study hall will definitely improve all New York City schools. Test scores and homework grades will go up because students will have quality time during the day to work. Teachers will see the improvements students made with the help of study hall. Study hall will make school a better place to learn!
