Your Future Begins Now

E-mail Print PDF
I’m sure that most people have at sometime awakened in the morning whining and complaining to the people around about how much he or she didn’t want to go to school? Personally, I know I always bugged my parents and hid in the closet, hoping that I could stay home, of course to watch Barney on television. Everyone goes through this stage, especially when it comes to school or even going to work.
But obtaining an education is a major factor in a person’s life, which serves to determine his or her future, and without an education one can not accomplish as much as he or she would with an education. Chances are you would be faced with mundane jobs such as being a waitress, a cashier, or garbage man. These types of jobs don’t showcase your intelligence or the talent you really have. Knowledge can be the best quality a person can have and school is the place to provide this quality.
With a Bachelor’s degree or potentially a Master’s degree, you are likely to receive a higher salary than an individual with only a high school diploma or GED certificate. A person with a Bachelors degree is likely to earn in terms of an average, almost twice as much as someone with a high school diploma over a lifetime ranging $2.1 million compared to $1.2 million. Professions such as physicians, dentists, professors, lawyers, require post-graduate degrees, even in some cases doctorate degrees. These types of jobs are considered the highest paying, so the more education you get, the more you are likely to earn.
My parents, born and raised in Bangladesh, as well as being tough for them, never had the opportunity to obtain an education. Most people there are less fortunate than here in America, and don’t have opportunities such as getting a free education like us. One of the main reasons why my parents decided to move here was that they wanted their children to have a better life with more opportunities. America is one of a few countries that actually provides free education from elementary school to high school.
My dream is to pursue an advanced education, which hopefully would lead to a successful career and to raise a family. While I’m still unsure about what career path I want to take, there are many of you reading this editorial who are in the same position. One thing I do know, is that school is the place that will lead me and you to the career, whatever it is, that we’re interested in pursuing. Some of you may already have a career that you’re really interested in and are talented at, if so, I’d say go for it!
We need to take advantage of all the opportunities we have! I know laziness can get the best of us, but we need to get out of that rut and face the real world.
Everyone is capable of completing high school and attending college afterwards.
Think about your future starting now, if you haven’t done so yet.
