The Day I Met My Idol; Karrine Steffans

E-mail Print PDF
img0055“Whore” or “Super-head” these are the names most people know her by. Her real name is Karrine Steffans.

After reading two books, hundreds of blogs and interviews; I was addicted. I couldn’t get enough of the drama and gossip. I was truly intrigued by her. Despite her previous lifestyle there was something about her that made me like her.

Ten Years ago Steffans was a top video vixen. Today, she is a New York Times best selling author. She is also a mother and wife. She speaks at colleges throughout the United States about what goes on at video shoots and the portrayal of women in a negative light. Steffans advises young girls not to follow in her footsteps stating that she went through heartaches so that we woouldnt have to. Steffans has even gone so far as to say that she doesnt want teenagers to read her books without parental advisory or at all due to them not being appropriate for our age goup. This to me is a responsible action on her part and one of the many reasons why I idolize her.

img0066On July 14, 2009, there was a book signing at the Hue-Man bookstore for the release of Karrine Steffans new book “The Vixen Manual”. I was ecstatic when I heard the news that I was being assigned to cover her book signing. I could not believe that I would be in her presence. I knew this would be a book I had to buy.

The day of the signing I was very excited. It was truly the highlight of my day. I took my seat and listened to every syllable Steffans made. She spoke words of truth and wisdom that only a “vixen” could.

After all the questions were answered it was time for the books to be signed. When it was my turn I stated, “Hi my name is Olivia and I know you don’t want me to read your book, but I already read it”. She laughed and asked, “How old are you?” I said, “Sixteen, my mother knows I read your books and we discuss the content together”. I told her if she wanted to call my mother to see if my mother would allow me to read her book and she did. Of course my mother said yes and Steffans signed my book to “Patricia and Olivia please read together and discuss.” I said thank you and was left speechless.

img0057I left the Hue-Man feeling inspired by her wisdom. Her aura can be felt from miles away. The venue was small and quaint not crowded or clustered; it consisted of people that felt the same way about Steffans as I did. I loved every moment of that book signing and will cherish, as that was the day I met my idol.
