What kind of books do you prefer? Mystery, fiction, non-fiction - what about urban fantasy? Award-winning screenwriter Treasure Blue has no problem creating this last type of story. When asked how he felt about his books being considered "urban fantasy," he chuckled and replied, "It's like a diamond in the rough."
For many people, Blue's stories equal hope. All his stories are urban fairytales that come true. Blue writes about things most people don't think of. "He lives his life writing stories people are unwilling to talk about."
As an ex-dealer, Blue is living proof of going from streets to success. One of the things that makes Blue a profound writer is the fact that he is willing to write about his weaknesses and show flaws. There is a saying that goes, "The best writers are the ones who have been through hell and back."
Blue's love for books started when he was younger. He was a troubled child growing up. His mother was a schoolteacher and an alcoholic who abandoned him at a young age. His punishment used to be to read a book. While all the other kids were cutting school, Blue would follow, but when they went about their business he would go to the library. Could you imagine cutting school to go to the library? To Blue, the library equaled a hideaway. Reading was his fantasy world.
As time goes on, Blue will continue to expand and create more urban fantasy. There is a lot of talk about a movie for his book Harlem Girl Lost, and that Blue is just waiting for the right time. But when asked, he just chuckled and said he's Ã’waiting to be on a Tyler Perry Budget." Let's see what happens.
Hipster Cinderella gives readers essential facts that you they may never need. Just in case you always wanted to meet your "fairy fag mother" up close, this is a good place to be. The humor is very alive and there is a definite motivation to get up and dance. As time goes by, Cindy, the main character, evolves into a hipster, but at the end she realizes she'd rather stay herself. Cindy has to put up with rude people and learn the hard way that hipsters do not take the L train east. I wouldn't want to give too much away, just stop by Mo Pitkins and see it yourself.
Treasure Blue isn't the only on making fantasy come true. The Stupes are blowing people away with their one act musical Ã’Hipster Cinderella." The play helps connect the realities in fantasies, and shows the importance of wanting to fit in. The musical scenes and the audience interaction is great. The play causes us to see that Ã’Hipster CinderellaÃ’ is in all of us.
