Amen Ambek, 23, Supervisor at Commerce Bank

I would stand in the line for 24 hours just for Obama.

Melvin John, Security Officer
1.    Are you going to go out and vote tomorrow?
Yes.
2. How long are you willing to stand in line to vote?
I won’t be standing in line because I’ll be going there early.
3. How do you think the Harlem Community would feel if Obama was to      win?
We will feel excited because it is a blessing from God that a black president won and that they’ve lived to see it.
4.    How do you think the Harlem Community would feel if McCain wins?
Well there’s always going to be two sides to a story. Some might say that it’s fair and others might think that it’s not and that they have been cheated.

Melvin Stewart, 22
1.    Are you going to go out and vote tomorrow?
Yes.
2.    How long are you willing to stand in line to vote?
I would wait 10 hours if I had to I don’t care as long as my vote counts.
3.    How do you think the Harlem Community would feel if Obama wins?
I think that the Harlem Community will feel a since of relief being that we have a lot of newcomers who are increasing the property values. So with a black man in office that means that things will change for the better.
4.    How do you think the Harlem Community would feel if McCain wins?
Oh Shit! If McCain wins Harlem will be devastated because property value will continue to increase.

Christine Gavin’lathan, unemployed but busy
1.    Are you going to vote tomorrow?
Yes.
2.    How long are you willing to stand in line to vote?
I will stand in line however long it takes just for me to vote.
3.    How do you think the Harlem Community will feel if Obama wins?
I think they will feel ecstatic. I think that the Harlem Community, which is still largely black, has been given blacks a reason not be apathetic. Lots of blacks have become apathetic to political situations and have no hope in the future. So with Obama running and possibly winning people now have hope.
4.    How do you think the Harlem Community will feel if McCain wins?
I think the Harlem Community will be very depressed if McCain wins.

Yes

2. What would be the longest your willing to stay on the line for the polls?

It doesn't matter how long I wait. This is a very important election and I would vote no matter how long it takes.

3. How will you react if Barack Obama wins? If John McCain wins?

If Obama wins I will be happy. But if McCain wins I'll believe the vote was stolen. For the last couple of months Obama has been in the lead, why would he not be close to the presidency?

Earlier, we went to City of New York City Police Department: 28th Precinct in Harlem, and police officers were not able to answer any of our questions. The police officer we spoke to said the city does not allow on- duty police officers to talk to the press unless they were mandated by the rules of the police department and city. Although he did not answer our questions in detail, we were able to get a couple of our questions answered.

1. What if any problems do you anticipate tomorrow?

No problems really.

2. What security measures are you planning for tomorrow?

Normally, the elections are planned for police officers to supervise. So, elections are standard, most police officers just stand around making sure the polls open and close safely.
