Teen Pregnancy: Why are Babies having Babies?

On April 26, students from Building Community Leaders at Sponsors for Educational Opportunity and HarlemLive went around Harlem interviewing people and asking for their opinions on Teen Pregnancy. These are some of the people that we interviewed. These people are not just teens, they're also adults, so you can catch the different points of view.

What age do you think is the appropriate to have sex ?

30 or when your married. When you do it too young you are mature

What age do you think is appropriate to get pregnant ?

30 because I don't want any children.

What do you think influences people to have sex?

When parents say no, t.v., peer pressure, environment.

How would you prevent or educate teens about the situation; for example condemn distribution in school?

Talk to them saying its not good.

I don't give an appropriate time, when their career is stable;, when their are happy with their education and they have a good life to give to the child.

Curiosity

How would you prevent or educate teens about the situation; for example condemn distribution in school?

Abstinence or women should use birth control and the men should use condoms. I love condom distribution in school because a lot of the people that have sex are embarrassed to purchase a condom.

The crowd they hang out with, the temptation.

I would tell them not to have sex until they are ready and I would give condoms out in the schools.

Seminars teaching them about reproduction. Schools should set up programs about birth control pills and other contraceptives.

Talk to kids about the risks that they may be taking.
