This inquisitive and electrifying author, intellectual, and professor was born on June 2, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As one of the world's foremost authorities on African-American history and one of America's college preeminent professors, Cornel West is one member of the W.E.B. DuBois inspired "talented tenth" that has moved up in the world and plans on taking his people with him. After graduating from Harvard with a B.A. in African-American History (summa cum laude). Cornel went on to gain his P.H.D at Princeton, while at Princeton Cornel encountered the activities of the Black Panther Party and was influence by their agenda to stock up on do for self knowledge. This experience, the inspirational teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and along with the music of famed musicians John Coltrane and James Brown helped to shape Cornel approach to life.

Today West is one of the most sought after speakers in this country. Audiences from all over the country come to his engagements to hear of his days volunteering with the Black Panthers free breakfast programs, his choice to attend Harvard Divinity School and pick a up another degree as an ordained minister, and his dedication to his people and their condition. If there is one thing besides education that Cornel has is dedicated to it is his need to leaven the playing field for his people and inspire the masses.
