 Women of color now have a voice through the art of filmmaking. Women of Color Productions is helping this voice be heard, by hosting its fifth annual, “Through Her Eyes: Women of Color Film Festival”. They are looking for many to attend.
The organization’s executive producer, Jaclyn Wade, has a strong personal liking for film, which is what inspired her to start the tradition of a film festival. Miss Wade’s goal is to create a non-existent venue for women of color. To accomplish this goal, she hopes that major distributors pick up films. She also hopes to gain an international reputation, especially to gain recognition by major film distributors such as Sundance and Cannes.
The Festival is home to a diversely profiled group of artists. Some are well-known and respected such as S. Hamilton from Novascosha and Paula Brancato from Los Angeles. The participants in this festival are African American, Asian, Latina, East Indian, Middle Eastern, Native American, and more.
The films that will be shown at the festival are about or by women of color. Jaclyn Wade describes them as, “thought provoking and powerful”. There are over fifteen interesting films, ranging from thought-provoking dramas, to comical experiences. These films capture the lives and experiences of women from all backgrounds.
