Truce, a fitness center that was opened on July 13th, to help teenagers get fit and eat healthy, grand opening was very successful. Hundreds of teenagers and their parents waited to join the festivities, while the Truce staff prepared a table full of healthy food so that the guests could taste the kind of food they should be eating.
The founder, Mr. Shawn Dove, as a youngster participated in a similar program called The Dome project. He decided to make a program like the one he grew up in but better. Mr. Dove said he wants the youth to get involved with their heath and fitness because they are the future. Mr. Dove also said he wants his staff to be between the ages of thirteen and eighteen so they can begin to develop great communication and leadership skills.
Paul Fuller the manager of Truce has been part of this organization ever since he was a teenager. He said, he decided to work for Truce because he feels that teenagers need a place like this fitness center. His future goal is for they're to be more places like Truce in Harlem.
This year Truce was able to hire twenty teenagers to work at the fitness center. The group of teenagers talked about how they joined the program. Sixty percent of the Truce teenagers joined because they needed jobs. The other forty- percent just wanted a place to hang out after school.
