 He is a man from New Jersey striving to change lives in New York. The 38 year-old Michael McPhearson, youth director, for the NCCJ (National Conference for Community and Justice) gets to fullfill his dream…being a father and brother in a role larger than life, wrapped up in one. Working for a nonprofit youth organization is great for him because it seems as if he really knows how to work with youth. It is a National Organization with 60 locations throughout the country that also obtains National and Regional offices in New York with a mission stop racism… and fight hate.
Most of the funding comes from big and small businesses. Having dinners that raise money as well as giving individuals willing to help to raise money. NCCJ tries to work with economic, nonprofit, and government leaders. Speaking against sexism, homophobia, and oppression of people with different religions. Even talking to Presidents of companies about what’s transforming their work environment.
McPhearson says he “Tries to work with leaders to guide the way.” As far as competition goes, it isn’t really a problem because they often unite. “There’s plenty of work to do.” Says McPhearson. One program they’ve established is the “Program Emerging Leaders Institute.” It’s a youth program with 12 schools in various parts of New York, Westchester, and Long Island.
Slowly but surely our nation becomes more and more multicultural. An important part of this is bridge is dialogue. This organization has been established since 1927. What McPhearson wants for his youth to be lead in a positive way and he knows he could grant that request. McPhearson says, “I like to work with young people”.
 He says, ”Young people tell the truth”. He also says, “Ask them a question about an issue they don’t worry about telling you how they feel about it.” For McPhearson working with young people has been an incredible experience. “Young people keep me in check.” Says McPhearson. “If you characterize them your not really giving them the proper guide you should.” McPhearson also says.
McPhearson tries his best to do his best as a youth director. He’s a productive middle-aged man who’s trying to good by leading youths and directing them to greatness. McPhearson is not only helping youth but also helping others through the process.He also has a website called "cpeace.com" that he creates from his house. The site is about all the peace issues going around the world.
NCCJ with a mission to fight bias, bigotry and racism ant to promote understanding and respect among all through advocacy, conflict resolution and education.
