Many organizations around New York City are really not being recognized for their hard work and effort in making our communities a better place. Many of them are fighting for rights they believe need to be acknowledged. Many organizations came to mind but I couldn’t just focus on one. Then I came across “Radical Women socialist feminist organization”.
They are dedicating to building leadership with women fighting for full rights. These women called themselves socialist because they believe they will never win full rights. They label themselves as “Multi- Radical, Multi- generational”. Radical Women is an Autonomist women organization that works with students, the unemployed, and the retired women.
They are the oldest women’s organization in the United States, which was founded in 1967. The group was started from a study group on campus at the University of Washington in Seattle. They developed their organization because of issue they felt it was within their best issues that women face in everyday life. They fight for abortion rights, immigrant rights, gay rights, war occupation, and they fight to free political prisoners.
Emily who is a 46 yr. old and also a participant at Freedom Hall for Social Radical Women is an office worker for the organization. She has been involve with Freedom Hall since the early 1980’s and states that this organization addresses all parts of her identity; as a women of color, a lesbian, a student, and a worker.
Betty, who is 62, is an organizer and participant at Freedom Hall. She has been involved in Freedom Hall since 1980. She as well works for the National Cactus of all color members in Radical and women Freedom Social Party. Betty is also a member of the radical women local and “National executive committee branch of radical women”.
Radical Women is a local and internationally organization. They have sites all over the country including Melbourne, Australia. One of the things that makes Radical Women such a unique organization is that it doesn’t’ just give “lip service”. They actually build leaders, discuss historic roles, education, theory, and they participate in movements for change. Recognize Radical Women as a start, change, and new beginning within our society.
