The New Yankee Stadium

E-mail Print PDF
newyankeeIn the heart of the Bronx by 161st is Yankee Stadium where spectators from all over the city come to watch their favorite team go head to head with other baseball teams. It is somewhat different from the old Yankee Stadium, in space and size. Was the new Yankee Stadium necessary to be built?  The economy is bad and there were already a stadium.
The new Yankee Stadium opened on April 3, 2009 between 161st and 164th streets. The construction began on August 17, 2006. It cost approximately 1.3. Billion dollars. That’s a lot of money! It is the second most expensive stadium in the world. Yankee stadium is not the only stadium that was being re-built, Shea Stadium was also going through a construction process
Before the new stadium was built, George Steinbrenner announced moving his team to New Jersey and to have a stadium on Manhattan’s West Side. Instead it was built one block away from the old stadium. The new Yankee Stadium was built because the team wanted to get additional revenue and they wanted fans to feel very comfortable.  Fans will be able to own their own box that is big enough for many people.
The new and the old Yankee Stadiums have some similar features and some different features. The new Yankee Stadium has so much to offer such as, party suites, club seats, a martini bar, a steak house and picnic areas.
A lot of people believe that it was unnecessary to build a new stadium. Even though there is a recession going on, building a new stadium would only worsen the economy.  Danny, 19, says that “the new stadium looks almost exactly like the old stadium.” Others say that it is good that there is a new stadium because it would be a better place to play at.
