It seems like the Ipod is becoming today’s new fashion statement. The Ipod is a new breed in today’s technology. In case you have been on the moon since Christmas, an Ipod is a small, stylish Mp3 player that is able to hold at least a thousand of you favorite songs. It’s hard to resist the candy-coded colors that the Ipods come in. Different types of Ipods are sold at different prices. The prices range from $100 to about $500.

Due to the popularity of the Ipods, thefts of the popular device are on the rise. I went to the heart of Harlem, 125th Street, to see how people in the community feel about the reported cases of Ipods being stolen.

I interviewed a sixteen-year old girl who owns an Ipod. I asked her how she felt about the reported cases of Ipods being stolen. She told me that she felt nervous that somebody might take her Ipod because it was really expensive. Some safety precautions that she said she takes are to carry different headphones and to wear the Ipod inside of her jacket. When asked why people still carry their Ipod’s in public if they know about the reported cases, she told me that people want to flaunt it because they have earned it.

I also interviewed Khalilah Phillpotts, who works at the Hue-Man bookstore. She said with any trend, there is high theft. When asked why she thinks that Ipods are being stolen she mentioned that it’s trendy, high value and it’s expensive.

Ariana Weeks owns an Ipod. When asked about the reported cases of stolen Ipods, she said that it’s sad that you can’t enjoy what you buy for yourself. A safety precaution that Ariana takes is just to leave the Ipod in your pocket and keep it from being visible.
It’s your choice if you want to purchase an Ipod, but keep in mind that you are risking getting it stolen. Below are some tips to keep your Ipod safe and three reasons why you shouldn’t steal an Ipod.

Three Tips on Keeping Your Ipod Safe
1. Change your headphones: The white headphones stand out. If you change the color of your headphones someone would think that you are actually listening to a CD player.

2. Don’t let it be visible: If your Ipod is visible then you’re more likely to get the Ipod snatched away from you.

3. Be aware of your surroundings: If you see someone eyeing your Ipod then that probably means that it’s a good idea to put it away.

Three Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Steal an Ipod

1. The Fire Wire: A fire wire is needed to download music onto your Ipod. This fire wire comes in the box when you first purchase your Ipod. So if you steal it you would be unable to download any music.

2. Registry: To download music on to your ipod you need to have certain numbers and codes to register it on the computer. So therefore if you attempt to steal it then you will be unable to download music.

3. Respect: Why would you want to take something that somebody else has earned? It’s better to earn your own.
