On Friday, February 12, 1999 Harlemlive embarked on a journey of knowledge. Digital Freedom was a journey where freedom took its place. This journey primarily focused on people of African descent who are not being given the moment of praise that they deserve in the digital technology fields.

The gathering was held at New York University's Canton Film Center. When I first arrived, I saw many people trying to find out what they would be seeing in the theatre. Normally when I walk into places where there are people much older I fill uncomfortable, but the objective of these hosts was to make everyone feel comfortable and to preserve that unity when the gathering was over.

One of the most inspiring people was Mr. Thomas, inventor of Lingo -- a scripting language for Macromedia Director and Shockwave, applications that are used for most interactive attributes on the internet. He seemed to be a very polite and timid man who has a heavy religious background.

Another honored guest was Mrs. Auriea Harvey, the founder and co-director ofthe design company, Entropy 8. Harvey also created projects for Virgin Records, MTV Online, PBS, The New York Public Theatre and the Guggenheim Museum. She is one of a few black females who have been out there working with technology from its point of origin. At Harlemlive we hope that many women take note of Harvey's achievement and realize that technology is not just for males but for anyone who has the will power.

Another honored guest was Mr. Keith Fulton who at a tender age became interested in technology. He believed that convincing his parents to buy a computer was a great investment in his future. Fulton attended Virginia Tech and since graduating, he has he opened many businesses. He also attended law school. An experience that would later benefit his business online and offline. At this time Fulton is using his skills to represent the Amadou Diallo case online. Now Keith Fulton is trying to make access to computers and the Internet easy so that his son and the rest of the younger generation face no problems in the years to come. Fulton lives in Harlem.

Another star of the hour was Mr. Bob Ponce, a known icon in the field of technology. He has left a trail of very interesting information. He seemed really quiet at the table but on the other hand he was someone whom the crowd knew for his involvement in the field of technology. Bob Ponce may be just the man whom the youth of today should use as a role model.
