Jealene City-As-School is a place many students turned to for motivation. Such as myself, I needed the missing motive that I never found in my recent high school. Being a new student in C-A-S I haven't gotten much of a chance to have any experiences. Therefore, I have no choice but to ask, is City-As-School motivating? My first source was the principal, Mr. Robert Lubetsky. As busy as he was I was able to get something out of him.
Q. Do you think this school can be motivating towards the students? Why?
A. It motivates me, I wish I was a student again. I hope people like this school as much as I do. Q. How do you feel about the staff, are they an inspiration to the students?
A. They are great and an inspiration to the students. Q. Do you think the resources is educationally sufficient to take the place of a class? Why?
A. It's a different education and you learn different things. What you learn at a resource is different from class. Doesn't mean one is better than the other is. Q. Do you feel there's a high rate of graduates/successors at C-A-S because of its opportunities? Why?
A. In terms of graduating there are 92% graduates in C-A-S. That's high for students who probably wouldn't have graduated if they weren't in this school. Q. Was this school created for students who lack motivation? Why?
A. It was created for students who can't fit in regular schools. It's also for students who can't sit in a class and learn the same way. Q. What made you want to be a principal at C-A-S?
A. This is the only school I ever wanted to be a principal at because I was very much like the students who go to school here. Another interview I had was with a teacher, Mr. Salvador. He also explained whether C-A-S was a motivation towards the students. Q. Do you think this school can be motivating towards the students? Why?
A. Yes, because the students get a better understanding. The staff is concerned and the students can work at what they do best. Q. Being a teacher, do you think it's your job to motivate students? If so, how?
A. Of course, not only do we motivate them but we also have to be a role model for them. How? By being concerned, having their best interest in mind. You have to love your job because if you do you'll do it well. Q. Do you think the resources is educationally sufficient to take the place of a class? Why?
A. Some are because the thrust of it. It's a learning experience. We don't have resources that give you math credits. There are a few science credits students can get, but resources replace credits not classes. Q. Do you feel there's a high rate of graduates/successors at C-A-S because of its opportunities? Why?
A. Yes, because the students take ownership for their future once they get here. Along with the staff being concerned and helpful. Q. What made you want to be a teacher at C-A-S? Why?
A. I like what C-A-S stands for. I like the personal touch and the amount of time I have to spend with students. After obtaining the opinions of Mr. Lubetsky and Mr. Salvador what better foundation for information can there be than a student. Lea Steinwurzel expressed her opinion as well. Q. Do you think this school can be motivating towards the students? Why?
A. Yes, because it gives students a chance to succeed in life. Q. How do you feel about the staff, are they an inspiration to the students?
A. Most of the staff are an inspiration because they care about the students. Some of them even came to C-A-S as students now they're apart of the staff. Q. Do you think the resources is educationally sufficient to take the place of a class? Why?
A. Yes, because there are things that you learn at resources that you could never learn in a classroom. Q. Do you think there's a high rate of graduates at C-A-S because of its opportunities? Why?
A. Yes, because the students see what they can accomplish in life and they go for it. Q. What made you want to be a student at C-A-S?
A. Because I wasn't doing well at my old school and because my mom works here. One other determinant I was able to interview was Ian Deurk. He seemed to have a different opinion than my other sources. Q. Do you think this school can be motivating towards the students? Why?
A. No, because if that was the case I wouldn't have been here for 2 1/2 years. I would have graduated. Q. How do you feel about the staff, are they an inspiration to the students?
A. They are really nice and they're there trying to help you. The staff leads you on a good track to graduate. Q. Do you think the resources is educationally sufficient to take the place of a class? Why?
A. Yes, because it gives you a better understanding of the topic and the real world. Q. Do you think there's a high rate of graduates/successors because of its opportunities? Why?
A. The school gives the students a better opportunity and different aspects of life. Q. What made you want to be a student at C-A-S?
A. My teacher told me about internships and I liked the idea. With so many impressions I have no choice but to ask once again. Is City-As-School motivating? Some people might think so and some might think not. In my opinion, it's a huge step towards one's dream. Whether you want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a singer, a dancer, or even a journalist.
City-As-School is a place where you could find your prime ability. Whether you do well at a job or in class, you are bound to find your true talents. City-As-School definitely led me to an opportunity. It guided me to a place where I could work hard to get to my destination, Harlem Live.
Without C-A-S I would of been the same lost girl, searching for my dreams. Based on the majority of the public's opinion, C-A-S is motivating. But what people fail to realize is that a lack of motivation leads to a lack of education.
