Warm, soothing, and relaxed, Society (2104 Frederick Douglas Boulevard, Harlem) stepped into a niche not held by many cafes in Harlem. Karl Franz Williams named the restaurant Society because as he put it, "It's about people coming together."

Walking up to Society, the first thing I noticed was the huge window front welcoming all to take a look. On the evening I stopped by, every table was candle lit. As I walked in the door I detected a cozy atmosphere and peaceful music. Everything on my mind sort of went to the back burner.

Walking up to Society, the first thing I noticed was the huge window front welcoming all to take a look. On the evening I stopped by, every table was candle lit. As I walked in the door I detected a cozy atmosphere and peaceful music. Everything on my mind sort of went to the back burner.

The restaurant is one big room, the kitchen is set off to the back and the front is quite accommodating with community tables, tables for two, and cushioned seating along the front of the cafe.
The wait staff was friendly and sociable. The young woman I spoke to mentioned that she liked working there because of the crowd and because it was right near her home. Williams explained his demographic as "everyone".

Boasting a menu full of variety, Society has everything from coffee to Belgian waffles, something even Starbucks can't brag about. A few other interesting items include, fondue, quiche, omelets, and gazpacho. During my visit I sampled the grilled chicken Panini and some apple cider, as well as Society's fresh squeezed carrot juice. It was all quite delicious and tasted very fresh. The meal cost $11.00

I found a few things a bit pricey for my still in High School and living off my mother budget but from what I tasted they're worth the extra change. That said don't hesitate to try out this new addition to the growing variety of Harlem businesses started by a member of the community.
