My name is Nyiesha Showers, but everyone knows me as Nyi. I’m from Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, New York and I was born on February 26, 1994. Besides from reporting and freewriting, I like to party, read books and just hang out with my friends. What intreseted me in Harlem Live is that I liked the fact that we get to figure out what we are going to report and we can write about what ever is on our minds. I think I can contribute a wise mind and a dedicated spirit to Harlem Live and Harlem Live could help me with my people skills and to make me a more better and cool person.
Name: Al-Amir H. Jordan Age: 21 (02-26-1985) Occupation: student at NYC College of technology, Wingspan Arts Inc. Career Goal: Finish school and start on Masters.
Hello everyone thanks for stopping by. I hope what you liked what you seen on the site already. As you can see my name is Al-Amir Jordan and I was born and raised in America . My parents and my older siblings are from Barbados which is a small island in the Caribbean that has a little over a quarter million citizens.
I enjoy the simple things in life from hanging out with friends to just watching Television. I really like being on the computer doing stuff. Right now to keep my stress levels down, I play games when I get a chance. I love taking apart my computer and putting it back together again, photgraphy, writing in my online journal (send email if you want to read it. contact info at the bottom), walking, listening to music, talking to my friends, having debates about what wrong with this country and what can be done to fix it. My friends and I get into debates a lot which is good because I learn something new every time.
Well if you want to know more about me, or have any question you can reach me
Oct 2002 – What’s up my name is Donnie. I am 18 years old, and I attend City-As-School. I used to go to Beacon High School. I’m originally from California, but now live uptown in Washington Heights. I like to write poetry, rap, and play sports and video games. I heard about Harlem Live through a teacher who said that I had great writing skills and should look into an internship that involved writing. And I did just that. I had a previous experience with journalism, when I wrote for my junior high school newspaper. I am the oldest of five. I have two little brothers and two little sisters. I hope to have a good experience here and be able to leave with knowledge that will maybe benefit me in the future.
Hi I’m Kelly, I’m an intern at Harlem Live from City-as-School. I am really into writing so ill hopefully be doing some writing. I think i have pretty good writing skills so ill put them to some use here. I’m 17 years old, my birthday is Februrary 19. I’m a Pisces/Aquarius. My birthday is in the middle of the 2 signs which makes me a little of both. I’m from Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn and i live with my mom, sister and grandma. Besides going to school i work at a bagel store and spend time with my friends. we chill, go to each others houses, go to shows/concerts, go out to eat at places such as Yaffa (i <3 Yaffa), dye hair, play with make-up, carry my lunch box and enjoy being girly! Music is an important part in ones life…it says a lot about a person. My favorite, the all chic band, The Lunachicks! I also like Blondie, The Smears, Metro Stylee, The Cure, Guns N Roses, The Toasters and a bunch of other ska/punk/girly rock/80s metal bands that i just don’t have the time or patience to list. I don’t mean to sound cheesy or anything but since I’m rambling about myself i might as well tell you, i like piercings and tattoos. I have 5 piercings not including my ears and 3 tattoos with more to come. Last, but certainly not least, I’m a big animal lover and… I LOVE PUGS!
(12/2002) My name is Qasim Abdul-Aziz Davis I was born on September 21, 1985. I live with both my parents in an apartment in Harlem. I have two brothers and one sister. I am junior at Beacon high school. I enjoy playing sports listening to music (hip-hop), and writing. I am an open-minded Muslim that enjoys debating and discussing politics. Most of my time is spent writing poetry playing baseball and listening to music. I like to critique music and find myself versatile when it comes to what I listen to. I first started writing for Harlem overheard and write about a large rage of topics. My favorite color is red it has a cool quality to it and it stands for so many things that but you cant help but enjoy it’s glow. Philosophy is my stat of mind servile is my natural instinct I think therefore I am. I am a new staff member and look forward to the challenges up a head. I try to be active in my community and socially aware. Free styling is an escape for me a long with writing so I do it instead of exploding into a violent rage. The types of things that I bring to Harlem Live are an open and young but wise school of thought, that loves to write, and tries not to deviate from the truth.
What it do baby? It’s the iceman Diamond/I got my mind like myself just shinin’/ Nah, let me stop. It’s Diamond B. though from BK reppin’ all day till the day, I’m a 17 years young Aquarius tryin’ to give all of you sports fanatics the news. I currently attend Canarsie High School in Brooklyn, and cannot wait till I exit the front door through those metal detectors for the last time. In the meantime, I’m trying to achieve my future goal of becoming a sportswriter. At the same time, I don’t want to be too bland with my wordplay. I want to present a new flavor and taste to the world of sports reporting, and something that you definitely wouldn’t be able to find by reading Mike Lupica, Jay Mariotti, or Woody Paige, who are all great writers. I wanna be mentioned if not with them, then mentioned above them. My “favorite writers list” stretches from Mike Lupica, sportswriter for the N.Y. Daily News, Jay Mariotti, sportswriter for the Chicago Tribune, Micheal Smith, sportswriter for ESPN.com, to Walter Dean Myers, Charles Barkley, Sistah Soljah(I have only read one of her books and I think that you all know what that is), and myself. I enjoy reading, but I tend to have a difficult time finding literature that relates to my life. I like to read about real things that people in the ghetto in the hood, such as myself can relate to. Therefore, my library of literature is mostly limited.
I love music, and I could live without it, but that would be a real hard life to live. I’m listening to Jay-Z while I’m typing this as a matter of fact. He just so happens to be one of my favorite artists, along with The Notorious B.I.G. of course, Pac of course, Papoose, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, Gravy, and myself. For the girls, R&B sweethearts in my MP3 Player range from Cherrelle, the old school Janet Jackson (“Pleasure Principle”) , Keyshia Cole, Mary( do I really have to finish her name?), and my fellow Aquarius home girl Alicia Keys. Besides that, I like to write. I can’t say love yet because I have a tendency to fall in love with hobbies quickly and leave them alone just as fast. So, I’m trying to take my passion for this as slowly as possible. Now, one thing I do love without a doubt is sleeping. I can fall out like somebody hit me son for real. I’m a real laid back dude. I am enjoying the road that Harlemlive has placed me on. Hopefully it will lead me to many more avenues than what Brooklyn has to offer. Look out for my articles on the site!
Hello, my name is Iyana Garry and I am a Lead Writer at HarlemLive, whatever that means. In my future, I see myself as a writer rather than a reporter, since everyone thinks that reporters are nothing but vultures who get up in your face with a camera and a mic whenever you and your scandal end up in court. However, Writing will be my career/hobby, while I work my way to the top of a major business corporation. Afterhours, I’ll be driving a baby blue Lambourgini to my 4,000 sq. ft Estate house up in East Hampton, making delicious cuisine for me and my French love slave. LMAO, in other words, I see myself with a luxury life, enjoying the fruits of my labor.
Hi, my name is Heather Kay Guerrero. I was just told to write a few things about myself – so bare with me. The basics are that I’m 19 years old, I’ve lived in New York my whole life and that’s pretty much it. I plan on attending New York City Technical College in the fall where I will be studying art and advertising design. Right now I am interning here at Harlem Live and that’s about it. Other than that, I spend most of my time out with my friends and going upstate. Till then, I’m just enjoying my life and living it to the fullest.
Hello, My name is Erika M Fernanez I was born on 2/8/86. I go to Mother Carbrini High School I am one of HarlemLive’s newest reporters. What do i like to do? I like to do what most teenagers now and days like to do. Hang out, go to the movies, patries and have fun. I also like to do useful things like write stories that help teens go threw hard times like parents not paying that much attention to their children or when they are just felling depressed about grades ect… I also love dancing and children. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to have a kid now maybe later in life. Becoming a famous dancer is like my morther’s dreams when she was a teenager and she couldn’t make it happen for her. So she asked me if I could, and if I wanted to follow her foot steps. I told her yes! I love dancing and that is what I want to do.
My name is Alexander Jackson, a very intelligent, versatile, and dedicated person to whatever I decide to commit myself. My addition to HarlemLive will be one to remember. I am a talented writer and photographer. Editing techniques are something additional I am learning.
With these skills and the many more I plan to acquire from NOW until the time I graduate high school, I will try to give my best contribution.
