Murid Islamic Community in America

E-mail Print PDF
p0000770The Murid Islamic Community in America held their annual Celebration of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Friday, July 28, 2000. They have held this celebration since1989 when it was proclaimed Sheik Ahmadou day in Harlem and New York. In 1989 the Muslims marched from 120th Street to Central Park and continue to march down the same route today. They had a very powerful African leader called Sheikh Mourtalla Mbacke from Senegal, who came to give a sermon.

Sheikh Mourtalla Mbacke is the son of the founder of the organization. His father was Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba. Mr. Mbacke inspires his followers a lot. I am ready to die for him and his cause, stated Ababacar Thiaw, the major coordinator of the event. Mr. Mbacke spreads Islam around the world to bring people together in the name of Islam.p0000764

The Murid Community went to the United Nations Security Conference to have both lectures and elections the night of Friday, July 28th. They had guest speakers from Paris, France. Like Christians who worship every Sunday, their day of worship is Friday.

This was a great opportunity to see other cultures in the community and be able to learn new things about other cultures. There needs to be more of this type of cultural diffusion in Harlem.
