Building With Style Fashion Show

Building With Style Fashion Show

Spring Fashion Show at Prince of Peace Tabernacle
"Building with style"
Designers: Quintasha Watson and Marvin Inabinet

One word to describe the Prince of Peace Fashion Show would definitely be unforgettable. It was very inspiring to see the youth, in spite of such hard times, display their talent for all to see. Singing, dancing, and designing all merged together on that day. Most importantly the beautiful and diverse talents of the young participants was showed off. The Featured designers of the Building with Style Fashion Show were Quintasha Watson, 17, and Marvin Inabinet, 19, who are both Fashion Design students at the High School of Fashion Industries. Together they put on a unique and entertaining show.To start off the evening, Prince of Peace Tabernacle’s very own choir sung a few selections, getting the crowd warmed up and in the spirit. The first scene of the show was the Construction scene, which was inspired by the main theme of "Building" with style. The models descended the runway wearing White and Black T-shirts, Blue Denim Jeans, and Brown Timberland Construction Boots. The accessories, which were more like props, ranged from brooms to construction hats, which worked well as a stylish counterpoint to the models' youthful and playful demeanor's. A trend that appeared throughout the evening was the bold and beautiful make-up on the models, done by yours truly; most had elegant "smoky eyes" while a few had more of an angelic look. While the models were all shapes and sizes, they were also racially diverse. Diversity is something that many people discuss around the time of Fashion Week and here I witnessed a welcome sign that the modeling world is changing for the better.
The show pretty much slowed down as the second scene appeared. This scene was all about "Business in the Day Time," and models wore many garments relating to the work field. There were many basic business suits (such as Button-Up Blouses, Pencil Skirts and Slacks). The main pattern of this scene was definitely Pinstripe, which appeared in many different shades and colors. Colors ranged from pink all the way to Black. However, the main trend that really appealed to me at this point was the SHOES. The shoes were fierce and the heels were HIGH, and yet the models still walked in them as if they were walking on clouds. So ladies...hide the flats and bring out the pumps when on the way to the J-O-B.

As we moved on to the middle of the program, the next scene was Marvin Inabinet’s Collection. First he showed an elegant collection of Purple and White Silk garments. Then the clothes got a little more casual. Inabinet wrapped it up with a black silk dress, and then walked out and made his appearance on the runway with a model who also wore one of his very own designs: a red and white dress with a large ballerina length bubble skirt, which really thrilled the crowd.

Following the Marvin Inabinet Collection was Quintasha Watson's Collection, entitled "Bubbulicious." This scene included bubble dresses, bubble skirts, and a bubble shirt-dress. My favorite garment from Quintasha’s collection was a colorful, striped bubble top that was paired with gold metallic leggings. I loved it, and overall if it could bubble it was there. Watson walked out and made her appearance wearing a beautiful purple evening gown, and the crowd applauded her, for without her the show wouldn’t have been possible.

The theme of the final scene was Evening Wear. This scene included everything from Evening Gowns to Cocktail Dresses. But what really made this portion of the show stand out from the rest was the fact that men were selected from the audience to escort the models down the runway, arm in arm. With slow music playing in the background and the guys dressed to impress, the show was wrapped up very smoothly and the models looked beautiful. One model wore an elegant black dress with black beaded detailing while another wore an ankle-length champagne colored dress with brown beaded detailing. My favorites were two dresses that were each its own shade of purple. One was a violet, strapless, flare-skirted evening gown from the Marvin Inabinet Collection; the other faded from a dark purple to a lighter shade from the top of the medium-length dress to the bottom. The final model wore a black long gown with a red and pink floral pattern. She really ended the show with a bang, with her red gloves and shawl both accented with silver.

Overall, this show was a resounding success. One thing I have taken away from this fashion show is that when you believe in yourself and show pride in your talents there is no limit to what you may achieve. Everyone who came together to construct20the show did such a good job and really delivered a great show. The host mentioned that there wouldn’t be another Building Fund but with the show being so good, how could there not be?
